Emerge and Foss visit

WOW! We had the YWAM group Emerge with their band Foss stop by for a one nighter on thursday 10/23/08. They were our guests for community meeting night. Several from the community showed up for the event and were well blessed by the group.
Foss the groups band played several of their own songs. Everyone enjoyed some real christian rock and roll. One of their dance teams performed a Hip Hop for Jesus dance. If you are interested it can be viewed on my Face book.

On Friday morning the group was still here and performed our worship sevice . They were awesome. Foss played a variety of contemporary songs including a heart wrenching rendition of Amazing Grace.
If you get a chance go to their web page www.ywamemerge.org
They have a clear and Godly message for all to hear and be involved in.

Week # 5 Real Life speaker Nancy Aument

It is week 5 already. Nancy Aument was our speaker. Nancy has a way of really getting the class involved in deep discussion on controversial topics that spawn heated discussion.

HERE ARE A FEW OF THE TOPICS WE DISCUSSED

"Jesus is wimpy" "God in a Box" "Heavenly Bosom" "Pale Galilean" "The Cop Within"

" God in a Hurry" "God is an Old Man"
IListed these in my official school journal as "Things that make you say WHAT?
Proably most of you are thinking the same things I was thinking at first glance. These topics are offensive and border on being sacrilegious. The topics were talking points in Nancy's presentation. She did an excellent job of explaining these offensive points in a way that spawned vigorus and sometimes heated discussion to break out in class. Some supported the topics some did not and argued vociferously against them. Some expressed another idea entirely. The end result of the whole 4 days was to get everyone to think about issues that are vital if we are to be followers of Jesus and defend the faith. The points made were of common but destructive misrepresentations of things in Christianity and the church.
NANCY YOU REALLY MADE US THINK.
It would serve no purpose to pose a discussion of thes topics in this venue. So just think about what you would say to someone who hit you with one of these topics.
Thank you Nancy
Bob

Week # 4 part 3

Well it has been too long since I was able to post but I will try to finish up to date today.

We left off talking about getting darkness out of the world.

"What is in the word of God is more real than we are able to see" "Angels exist... right where we are at any time" Heb.12:22 Heb 1:14 We need to recognize angels as there are a part of spiritual warfare. Ps 91:11-12 Mt. 18:10 Acts 12:

Angels move or function as a result of our prayers.. We do not pray to angels.

In Dan 10 The story is related about a prayer Daniel had asked. 3 weeks he prayed and fasted, finally on the 21st day an angel appeared to him in a vision and said that from the very first day he prayed his prayer was heard and that at that time the angel was sent to him, but the Prince of Persia (enemy) had delayed him for 21 days in coming. So from this we see that God hears our prayers immediatel and responds to them not always so quickly but in this case immediately. God then activates his legions of angels to act in our behalf. WOW! How powerful is that.

So at this point I will skip to the portion of Deans presentation that shows us that we have Authority.

We were given Authority at creation. Satan too lived in the garden and he saw the authority that God had given to man and he wanted it. He went to man and told him a lie. Surely you will not die if you eat of the tree of knowledge. Man believed him and thereby gave up some of his authority. So then we also obviously have free will.

Authority is an actual legal reality. ie: a marriage- one is or one is not married. Citizenship one is or one is not a citizen.

"Satan is a legal expert"

Gen 3:15

seed of Satan ------------------- seed of woman

sin, death, destruction ---------- Human , Israel,Jesus.

So if the seed of Woman is Human,Israel, Jesus and the seed of the devil is sin, death, destruction. We can define the sum of the Old Testament in 2 sentences.

1. God bringing the seed of woman through Israel for the purpose of bringing a messaiah, Jesus.

2. Stories of the devil trying to kill, destroy, or corrupt that seed.

So what then is the legal basis for authority?

1. What Jesus did to Satan from the cross. a. Stripped or disarmed him of authority. Col.2:15

b. Destroyed his works. 1Jn.3:8 Acts. 10:38, Is.61:

2. What Jesus did for you.

a. Delivered us. Col. 1:3, Heb.2:15,

b. Gave us power to continue. 1 Jn. 4:4

3. Authority to exercise our authority. Luk.10:19, Jn.20:21-23,Eph.1

;21,Eph. 2:6

"The devil does not automatically stop doing things, he only stops when christians tell him too in the Name of Jesus"
We exercize our authority through the following;

1.The Name of Jesus. Mk. 16:17

2.The Word of God. Eph.6:17

3. The Dunamis of the Holy Spirit. Mt.12:28, Acts 1:8

4. The Blood of The Lamb. Rev. 12:11

5. The Word of Testimony. Rev. 12:1

So why then if we have all this authority is there still evil in the world?

Evil exists because;

1. People disobey the truth or are selfish==SIN

2.God lets it exist because free will is more valuable than the absence of evil. ie Love is never love and is never satisfying if there is no choice.

3. Evil exists in order that people may develope.

"We can and must make evil work for us"

We will be tested through, temptation, trial and attacks.

"Temptation is common to man- it is not Sin. God will not allow us to be tempted beyond our ability to resist." Keep the Gate closed in order not to facilitate an attack. Remember we serve God by Free Will. Attacks happen at differing times and seasons to some people more than others, and in some places more than others.

" If one has a good roof on one's house it does not matter how strong the rain is"

God allows attacks so we can overcome them.

" We can not become overcomers unless there is something to over come."

We have authority over satan. He only attacks us because he has found out that we will let him.

"In order to resist the devil we must convince him that we are convinced" 1 Pet5:9

SO FINALLY WAE COME TO THE FINALLY!

12 POINTS THAT SUMARIZE THE THINGS WE CAN DO TO FIGHT A SPIRITUAL WAR.

1.Intersession.. Stand in he Gap between God and someone or something.

We do this by asking God to hold off judgement and by asking SPECIFIC prayers.

hindering what the devil is able to do,by specifically resisting the devil, "In Jesus Name",by loosing and binding evil,by practicing "Passive Warfare" ignoring the devil and Praising God,

by fasting, and continually praying. It is to the degree and by the speficness that God moves. Is 59:15-17

"WITHOUT GOD MAN CAN NOT<>

2. Living a Holy Life "BY LIFING" believe from the greek BY LIFE.

3. Going to places where the devil is active. ie; Nations where ther are few christians.

4. Preach the Gospel--Insert the Light.

5. Having the right reactions in adversity.

6. Fasting.

7. Repentence and Faith.

8.Unity. Agreeing together.

9. Giving generously.

10.Loving service. ie; mercy ministries, getting serious about missions.

11. Endurance-Never give up.

12. Worship and Praise.

So we come to the end of week #4 and the first day of week #5.

Week #4 part 2

WOW! I will try to continue with Dean Sherman on spiritual warfare. It has surely been a week full of information and some actual application of what was learned.
We left off discussing being in the spirit to fight a spiritual war.
The next section is on Balance. We get out of balance because we are human. God allows this so we will become dependant on Him. Some ways we become embalanced are. 1. Putting too much emphasis on Demons. ie. There is a demon in every closet. 2.Under emphasis on Demons. Not recognizing when there is a Demonic reason for someones actions.
Getting out of balance can cause us to get ou
t of the sunshine of victory. 3. Spiritual Pride, eletism or exclusiveness. 4. Fear. The Bible refers to "Fear Not" 360 times 5. Wrong focus, the right focus is to win the lost and to meet the need of Christians brothers and sisters.
It is important to "be aware of what the Devil is doing but never impressed".
Dean had a discussion on building walls and repairing gates that had become broken down.
One of the first things done in old testament times when rebuilding was to repair the walls and gates to prevent attack while in the rebuilding process.
Although we do not usually have physical walls around us anymore we do have walls of protection and gates to enter and leave through.
Gates are entry and exit points. They open and close at the desire of humans.
In Old testament days gates were where many important decisions were made. God functions toward gates. Gates are so important that Satan tries to influence them on a regular basis.
He tempte he decieves he destroys and kills.
We the church have influence on gates. We pray, God answers and we have power to bind and cut off the devil.
Shut Gates are an example of defensive warfare. Open gates on the other hand indicate offensive warfare. Defensive warfare would include prayer and fending off attacks by the enemy. Offensive warfare would include the Great Commission, preaching the Gospel and discipleing nations.
The thoughts of ones mind are an example of a Gate that should be kept closed. Our minds are responsible for much deciept by the evil one. Pride, Strife, contention fear are thoughts that can controll a person to the level of loosing victory.
Our attitudes and negative emotions are another gate that should be carefully guarded. We tend to watch sins of action but sins of emotion not so much. What come from the heart is what defiles a man.
The tongue and mouth are also gates that can cause us much trouble. Out of the same moth can come the Human spirit, the Holy Spirit, and Evil Spirits.
Relationships are another important Gate. We should be loving and forgiving just as our Father is. We should love one another with the same love we give ourselves.
We are just like a four door car and we have control over the doors. We decide wether or not they are open or shut ,locked or un-locked.
One of the best offensive warfare gates is our prayer life and it should be open all the time. The problem we face is in prayer we pray too much in a general mode. Specific prayer gets specific answers.
The more specific we pray the more faith we are exercising.
The following are some of the areas of our lives we need to build up the walls and repair the gates in. Marriage, family, school, church, cities, the nation, businesses, and professional organizations. Thes are not by any means all the places we need work on but some examples of places the devil is working hard to influence.
The Old Testament is the best spiritual warfare manual ever written. The principals of spiritual warefare have not changed at all.
Ungodly leaders in whatever area of life, neglect and rebellion against authority are ways we are loosing the battle in the spiritual realms.
Romans 13 says all authority is ordained by God. Therefore we should submitt to authority as long as it is not against our spiritual beliefs. We should perfor our works as if working for God.
1 Tim 2:1-3 says we should pray first for everyone then for Kings and authorities.
The battle we ae fighting is not against flesh and blood but against Principalities and Powers.
The Devil has deployed his forces Geographically and according to people groups.
This is the reason there may be lots of Christians in one country and in an adjoining country none. Spirits are territorial they are not omni present.
So how are we doing at the great commission? 15 years ago there were 8 known countries with no Christians in them. Today there are no (0) countries with no Christians in them. This does not mean that we are making really great strides although we are doing well. It is a fact that there are many places yet to be reached with the Gospel.
The only reason these places exist is that we as Christians do not pray specifically enough to make inroads there.
We need to focus on the Devil's strongholds. To do this we mus assess the ststistics of a city or area. Check the living conditions of the people groups there. Study a history of the people.
Ask God to show us the problems.
When we find out don't just sit around and discuss the problems, avoid being influenced by them pray specifically for the situation( intersessory prayer) and most mportant live the opposite of the problem.
Religions and Philosophies are the two major forces of darkness. The best way to break them down is through specific answered prayer.
Pray specifically against darkness, preach the gospel. We can not get darkness out of the Earth unless we put light in.
We must be serious about missions and outreach.
That is about all I have time for on this post. I will attempt to finish this up next time.
I hope you are enjoying this blog as much as I am the original teachings.

Week #4

Week #4
Well we had a small mix up in scheduling and instead of The Love of The Father we are having Dean Sherman via Dvd talking on Spiritual warfare. Dean started with the statement that everyone is involved in spiritual warfare. Thee main reference is Eph 6: starting at verse 10. He gave 2 prerequisites for meeting the first part of verse 10. 1. Knowing who you are in Christ. 2 Knowing your responsibility and living responsibly.
Deans second statement was that spiritual warfare is a battle. It is not a natural battle with guns etc it is a supernatural battle fought in the spiritual realm.
We as humans tend to fight each other rather than fight against Satan.
2 quotes I liked very much "God built humans to need to see justice done and good triumph over evil" because of this "I am a fighter by nature and if I don't fight the devil I will end up fighting people" also Fighting people has a negative effect on the spiritual world"
Deans 3rd statement is The devil has strategies. Spiritual warfare involves learning to recognize the devils strategies, refusing to co-operate with him, and aggressively cutting off the strategy.
Every strategy of the enemy leads to deception and bondage and ultimately to destruction.
There are a number of qustions to ask and ways to determine the strategies of the devil.
1. Aks what would I do to me if I was the devil.
2. Learn about the nature of the devil. He comes to kill, steal and destroy.
3. Determine the statistics and conditions of the situation.
4. Ask the Lord. Probably should be first thing. Prayer...

We are ready to battle in the spiritual realm. We have weapons and armor.
Dean made a point of saying that Ephesians was written partly because of so much Occultism. Paul wrote ephesians to let them know thwt now since they were Christians they were covered with armor.
1tim:2 Faith and a clean conscious will cause you fight a good fight.
We have armor but we must also put armor on. Putting on of armor equals the following.
1. Acknowledging all the good things that are within us.
2. Checking the guages. Just like when we start a car we notice the temp and oil pressure etc.

An important element of spiritual warfare is being in the "Spirit" not that we have to speak in tongues but we should invite the spirit to participte at every level and to speak boldly by the spirit and keep being filled by the spirit. We should also employ any spiritual gifts we have been given. Following ar e4 ways we accomplish this.
1. Remove any hinderences. Confess repent.
2. Yeild to the Holy Spirit. Give in to, allow, open up to.
3. Be led by the Holy Spirit.
4. Allow the Holy Spirit to energize or empower you.

This is all for this post> I will continue with this next post.
God bless all
Bob

Week 3 continued

To the right you can see a picture of week #3 speaker David Bauman.

One of Davids quotes that I liked was "It's not by achieving but by Receiving" also "if one does not Preach God's grace radically peoples lives cannot be changed radically"

There were many scriptures used in David's presentation. The following is a list:

Eph. 2:4-5, Gal. 3: 23-25,John 1:17, Ex. 20, Gal. 6:7, Mat. 5: 17,Rev. 12:10, Jer. 31: 33-34,

1 Cor. 13: 4-7, Heb. 10: 11-18, Col. 2:6-19,Heb. 8: 8-10&12.

Many thanks to David for all his time and effort for the week.

Week #3 God's Grace

This is day 1 week #3. The speaker for this week is David Bauman the director of Lebanon YWAM base. The topic for the week is God's Grace.
I always believed that I was completely forgiven and that I did not have to do anything but believe that Jesus is the Son of God and obey his word in as much as possible. It was absolutely vindicating to hear David talk on the topic. He said things in a manner I had not heard or thought of. He used the scripture Col 2:6-19 to show that the old covenant is gone and the new covenant is all that matters. David said that the Law (old covenant ) was given to show man that he cannot live by it. It is impossible for man to perform at a high enough level to satisfy God. The death and resurection of Jesus was all the sacrifice that was required for the salvation of man. There is no amount of works or things we can do to make God love us any more than he already does.
The reason we want to DO for God's kingdom is because of our love for him.
It is not that I believed otherwise, it is just that it felt so good to actually see the scriptures that said all that.
The next thing I had never thought of was that there were no chairs in the Holiest of Holies. The work ther was never done it went on 24x7x365. The new covenant took care of all that too. We are told in scripture that Jesus seated us with him.
It truly was an eye opening day. Praise God.

Week # 2

Hello everyone. This will be the first post on my new blog. The old one through some quirk bccame un-usable for me.

I will start at the 2nd week of DTS so although it has been a long time since my last post wyou really did not miss that much.

Week two started with me losing my dad to pneumonia and infection. He was 85 yrs old and will be and is being missed. I did not return to Fl for the funeral as it was a simple 15min graveside event and my Mom did not want me to travel that far for that. So I decided not to go.

The strangest thing was during week 1 we listened to Lauren Cunningham the founder of YWAM. One of his talks was on giving up your rights and one of the rights he talked about was family. It really registered when I got the call about Dad.

Week two was very stressful for me what with the uncertaintity about the funeral and whether I should or could go or not. Once that was all straightend out things went smoothly.

Our speaker Bill and Bridgett Blatz, spoke on intimacy with God and discipleing the nations.

They do not really sound like compatible subjects but they were able to make them come to life and to show how one compliments the other.

Some of the quotes by Bill and Bridgett were quite profound. ie; "Reactions are a window to the soul" and "intimacy is what ignites revolution" another "all of mans trying will never make him acceptable to God"

Bill was kind of humorous and said "If you pray for patience, God may send all kinds of weird folks to give you patience" Funny but Oh so true.

ome other quotes and scriptures they used; "hope does not disappoint" Eph 5:21 Submit to one another out of reverence to Christ. "knowing about God is different than knowing God" John 17:3 Eternal life is knowing God and his son Jesus. other scriptures; Prov 14:10, Psalm 139: 1-4, 15-16, 2 cor 10:4-5, Num 1:1-2.2:32,13:17. One of my favorites Acts 26:18

Bill said that "revival will come served on a platter of adversity"

One of the main thingsI picked up on was the idea that we are to go and make disciples of all nations and also to spread the Good News to all creatures. That may not sound like much but what really hit home with me was the actual order in which we are to go and do. Making disciples first is really important. If we do then they in turn will want to go make other disciples and will be more successful with their own countrymen than we ever could. If on the other hand we only win souls for Christ we have indeed fulfilled part of the great commission but who is going to disciple them when we are not there?

Other im[portant points were made about influencing the whole of a nation instead of just the church. We all have various gifts and talents we should use in the diferent social and economic areas. ie Teachers and educators should get involved n the education syatem. Those in the medical field should use their gifts to serve the host country in medicine etc. by doing this we create a much broader base of christian influence in an nation.
